Let’s Chat: Road Trip Essentials

It’s almost time for Spring Break around here and I thought it would be the perfect time to show you one of my favorite “Mom hacks.” A few months ago I decided we needed something to help us keep our car organized, I of course turned to Amazon Prime and found the Mimmo caddy by Mollie Ollie. I was looking for something that I could store some snacks and activities that the girls could do in the car during road trips or even for the times we are early for preschool pick-up. I should mention, we are the proud owners of a mini-van with a DVD player, however, we do limit the use of the DVD player.

When our caddy isn’t packed for a road trip, it’s perfect for storing an extra set of clothes, extra diapers and wipes, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, all those little things you may need while out with the kiddos but don’t want to weigh down the diaper bag with! I also love that there is a zipper compartment on the side of the caddy, I threw in some first aid supplies like band-aids, Neosporin and even a few essential oil rollers (Stress Away and Thieves to be specific). Overall, the caddy is super sturdy and provides plenty of storage, it’s also really light weight and just the right size to store under a captains chair seat. The longer handles make it easy to throw over you shoulder if you wanted to take it with you, I’m thinking of how great it would be to just carry this caddy into your hotel room so your kiddos have some toys to play with during vacation! So many great uses, affordable and the best part of course is that it’s PRIME, gotta love that fast shipping, read below to see what Avery and I packed our caddy up with, now we just need to plan a road trip!

We packed our caddy full with all of our favorite road trip activities and snacks, take a peek at what we put inside:

Melissa and Doug Water WOW Books: We LOVE these Water WOW books, you fill up the pen with water and the kiddos get to paint each page, the best part is as it dries the “paint” disappears so the kiddos can paint over and over again!
Contingo Snack-n-Go Cups: One of my best friends has a cup like this for her little man and I know my girls would LOVE them! Plus, no baggies to throw away and it’s much easier for them to hold too, the snack goes in the top and water in the bottom, perfect for road trips.
Lacing Cards for Toddlers: A great hand eye coordination activity for the kiddos, my girls love these lacing cards.
First 100 Words Sticker Books: Sticker books are the BEST for long car rides or even on an airplane. I love the “100 Word” series books, my girls are able to complete most of the pages on their own.
Melissa and Doug Reusable Sticker Pad: Another favorite around here, Avery loves the dress-up book and Emmy loves setting up the farm scene, perfect for the car and I love that it’s reusable, so no need to re-fill stickers!
Crayola Mess Free Coloring Book: These coloring books are the BEST, all the markers color clear until you color them on the special “mess free” pages, no need to worry about the kiddos coloring on themselves, walls, car seat, etc.!
Mom I’m Bored Activity Book: I just found this one on Amazon, it looks like it comes with a reusable pen and would be perfect for kids ages three and up, the small notebook size would be great to throw in a diaper bag too.
Crayola Twistable Crayons: These are our favorite crayons because you can’t break them and you never have to sharpen them!
Melissa and Doug travel puzzles: These came in really handy during our longer road trip over Thanksgiving, the puzzle box top serves as a work space so Avery was able to complete a puzzle or two during our drive. This is also small enough and would make a nice toy to have on hand if you’re staying in a hotel and need to bring a few toys along.
Invisible Ink Coloring Book: I love Target, but I’m so mad these aren’t in their dollar section anymore! They are SO much more expensive now, but it’s one of Emmy’s favorite activities, using the clear marker you color on the page to make the color and design show up!
Magnetic Drawing Board: I always keep one of these in our diaper bag and this travel sized option is great for road trips too.
